Level Up Ventures invests in early-stage startups led by Black and Latino founders. In 2024, new investments included SmartWiz, one of only 15 IRS-approved software solutions for tax professionals, designed to streamline return filing, boost business efficiency and enchance client service and LoanWell, a white-label SaaS platform that simplifies the process for community lenders, furthering its mission to make affordable capital accessible to all.

UNLISTED, an AI-powered real estate technology company founded by CEO Katie Hill, won the top prize at HearstLab's $100K pitch competition for early-stage, women-led tech startups. Since the event, they have received an additional investment and partnered with Hearst Newspapers to enhance local real estate reporting.

The team's "click to publish" program includes a suite of more than 20 templates that reporters, editors and producers can use to create interactive and visually driven stories, which have driven 304% more visits, engaged nearly 500% more subscriber visits and influenced people to subscribe to Hearst Newspapers websites at higher rates.

Hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro, the series celebrates the wildlife ambassador and introduces his most important stories to a new audience.

At the seventh Pitch HearstLab competition event (and the first at Hearst Tower!), UNLISTED, founded by Katie Hill, was named the winner of a $100,000 investment and support from HearstLab. UNLISTED is a cloud-based software system that leverages AI and machine learning technology designed to reveal and align previously untapped real estate opportunities for the industry.

Level Up Ventures, which invests in Black and Latino founded companies, made several key investments in 2024.

Hearst announced a new content partnership with OpenAI, integrating Hearst’s extensive newspaper and domestic magazine content into OpenAI’s products. “As generative AI matures, it’s critical that journalism created by professional journalists be at the heart of all AI products,” said Hearst Newspapers President Jeff Johnson.

"Our partnership with OpenAI will help us evolve the future of magazine content,” said Hearst Magazines President Debi Chirichella.

Car and Driver launched a new podcast, Into Cars, delivering unfiltered conversations about the most compelling new vehicles on the road. Hosted by Editor-in-Chief Tony Quiroga and Chief Brand and Content Officer Eddie Alterman, the show takes listeners into the driver's seat of the hottest new cars to hear the engines revving, the tires squealing and the hosts' candid reactions, followed by conversations with the people who designed and built the cars.

Women’s sports exploded in popularity with the rise of University of Iowa basketball star Caitlin Clark, among other up-and-coming athletes. ESPN and the NCAA reached an eight-year agreement that includes exclusive rights to 40 NCAA championships. As Clark transitioned to the WNBA, more records in women’s basketball were broken: The matchup between Clark’s Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky on June 16 drew in a record-breaking 2.3 million viewers, making it the most-viewed WNBA game in 23 years.
